There comes a season in every life when the place that shaped us is behind us, but the place we are meant to become has not yet revealed itself.
This tree once belonged to a mountainside.
Its trunk was carved by weather, scarcity, and time. Every scar is evidence of a life honestly lived. It grew exactly where it was meant to, until one day it was lifted from the only landscape it had ever known.
Now it rests in a rough cedar box built from salvaged lumber.
Not as a destination.
As a place of becoming.
The road disappears into fog because the future is rarely visible from where we stand today. The mountain remains behind us. The destination has yet to appear. All we are ever asked to do is take the next step.
The tree itself is unfinished.
Some branches will remain.
Others will be cut away.
New growth will emerge where none seems possible.
Its final form cannot yet be seen.
Neither can ours.
Growth rarely happens where life is comfortable. It happens in uncertainty. In waiting. In rebuilding. In learning to carry forward the parts of ourselves worth keeping while letting go of those that no longer serve us.
Transition is not failure.
It is stewardship.
The careful work of tending what should remain while making space for what comes next.
Not every season feels like home.
Some seasons simply prepare us for it.
NOT LOST. JUST NOT HOME YET.
