About the product

The growing season is starting to slow down. The days are getting shorter, the greenhouse is cooling off, and while most plants are beginning to settle in, the Anthuriums have other plans.

Inflorescences are coming in.

For the uninitiated, it probably doesn’t look like much. For the people who know, it means checking flowers every morning, watching for receptive females, collecting pollen, labeling crosses, and deciding which two plants might create something that doesn’t exist yet.

There’s a strange amount of patience involved in creating something new. You grow a plant for years. Wait for it to mature. Wait for the right flower. Hope another plant is ready at the same time. Make the cross. Then wait again.

And, occasionally, you gently touch tips.

Mating Season is for the hybridizers, collectors, and plant people who understand that some of the best things we grow start with equal parts patience, curiosity, and a little pollen.
